On the eve of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the faithful from parishes across the Archdiocese of Kingston gathered in the Cathedral for a candlelit Taizé prayer liturgy and a spiritual talk given by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Toronto, Cardinal Frank Leo, entitled Knowing and Loving the Beloved.  Reflecting on John 10:10, His Eminence spoke about Our Lord’s desire for us to live an abundant life, a life in right relationship with God. Archbishop of Kingston, Michael Mulhall, presided over the evening liturgy. Fr Arthur Lee, Priest Secretary and Master of Ceremonies to Cardinal Leo, and Fr Shawn Hughes, Rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, assisted with the liturgy.

Candlelight filled the Cathedral as the sun set on the City of Kingston, and the faithful of all ages listened to the inspiring words of Cardinal Leo, sang together and prayed in silent reverence. A large San Damiano Cross stood behind the altar, adorned with votive candles. The evening prayer program concluded with silent veneration of the Cross. Blessed peace rosaries and medals of St. Carlo Acutis and Saints Louis and Zelie Martin were given to all in attendance. Cardinal Leo remained at the doors of the Cathedral with Archbishop Mulhall until all of the faithful who wished to speak with him had done so.

This special evening of prayer and spiritual reflection was part of the three-day Come and See speaker series hosted by the Archdiocese of Kingston in celebration of its 200th anniversary. The series culminated in Holy Mass on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Cathedral on Saturday morning, August 15th. The full evening prayer program and talk by Cardinal Leo can be viewed here.
